善兵衛 (Zenbee):Leader of a peasant uprising in late Edo period Japan. His full name is 中川善兵衛 (Nakagawa Zenbee). Born in 1790. A farmer from Kamiyamada village, Hamochi district, Sado (The current name of the area is Kamiyamada, Hamochi machi, Sado City, Niigata Prefecture). In 1838, as the representative of the Sado province, he appealed to the inspector to express his dissatisfaction with the Sado bugyō , and was imprisoned. The farmers on the island staged an uprising in which they attacked rice shops and other businesses, but it was suppressed, and Zenbee died in prison in Edo in 1830 at the age of 47.
